In remote communities like Lockhart River, access to fresh produce isn’t what you get in regional areas. Located 800km from Cairns, there is just one community store, and our food is on average 60% more than regional areas.

That’s why we’re launching our Full Tummies, Ready Start Appeal – to introduce a daily breakfast and lunch program at our Kuunchi Kakana Centre. Its not a handout, its families working together, creating their future. This program would mean that parents and carers come together and prepare healthy meal options at breakfast and lunch, four days a week. Kuunchi Kakana means Families Together.

Together we will raise funds for a breakfast and lunch program for the next 12 months at our centre. To do so, we need to raise $40,000.

Lockhart River is identified as one of the country's most vulnerable communities. Our life expectancy is 20 years less than the average Australian. The unemployment rate in our community is three times the national rate. Yet, access to fresh, affordable produce is limited.

This is why we are launching our Full Tummies, Ready Start Appeal, to introduce a healthy food program at our Kuunchi Kakana Centre where breakfast and lunch will be available to children, parents and carers daily.
